Free Adolescent Dentistry
We are proud to be among the few New Zealand Dentists who provide dental treatment through the government dental benefits scheme.
The number of private practice dentists who offer this service is, unfortunately, dwindling as many do not see this as a financially rewarding area of practice, on the contrary, we see this as an imperative area of community service whereby we are enthusiastically involved in shaping the dental health of our next generation of young New Zealander’s – an area in which our dentists are passionately involved.
Free basic dental care is available for all New Zealand children and teenagers up to 18 years of age.
Special Dental Benefit Scheme for Children
This scheme covers the free care offered by contracting dentists following a referral from a dental therapist. This also includes the emergency treatment offered by dentists outside the hours of the school dental clinic. However please be aware that although your normal school clinic may be closed, there will usually be an alternative clinic close by that is still open (e.g. during school holidays).
Adolescent Dental Care Eligibility
Adolescents who are residents of New Zealand are eligible for free basic dental care from school Year 9 age 12 to 13yrs). The individual is covered under this scheme until their eighteenth birthday.
Does the Scheme cover all treatments?
No, it covers basic dental treatment only. Each adolescent is entitled to one examination per calendar year. The Dental Benefits Scheme does not cover Braces or Orthodontic treatment, or treatment that is required as a result of an accident (in which case ACC will apply).
How do I enroll my Child?
Email us or phone 09 368 9228 and request your child be enrolled in the Dental Benefits Scheme. We will need you to complete and sign the enrolment form and then your child is registered. Please note that the scheme only allows your child to be registered with one dental practice. Please ask our staff if you wish to change your child’s enrolment from another practice to Aevitas Dentistry.
